"In order for people to develop into well-functioning adults, it is critical that adults learn key life skills."
The GRAYCE Project
In order for us to develop into well-functioning adults, it is critical that adults learn key life skills. Usually this takes place during childhood, but this can be a constantly developing process. Life skills include critical and creative thinking, decision-making, effective communication, as well as skills for developing healthy relationships and a positive self-concepts. Life skills help people make responsible and informed choices and can promote healthy lifestyles as well as career skills. Life skills may be defined as “abilities for adaptive and positive behavior, that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.”
Our six-week program is an integrated approach that helps to develop personal, interpersonal, dealing with procrastination, and alcohol and drug resistance skills. The program is designed to strengthen abilities in the following areas:
- Career Development
- Personal Management Skills
- Time Management Skills
- General Social Skills
The GRAYCE Project can also be described as an intensive six-week program designed for underskilled or underemployed women so they gain marketable skills and become self-sufficient.
Through the GRAYCE Project, Healing Broken Vessels addresses issues in the community such as social problems including poverty, poor parenting, welfare dependency, health and financial literacy. Through participation in the program we help our students become more capable, committed and enter the mainstream of society with more confidence and knowledge than when they had started the program. By the end of the program, we hope at least 75% of the women will be employed as a direct or indirect result of their involvement with the GRAYCE Project at Healing Broken Vessels.
Women completing the GRAYCE Project will be able to overcome some challenges within themselves and the workplace. They will also have the ability to obtain a better self image. They will also strengthen their families by being able to learn better communication, get expose to commonly used and current technological trends, speaking habits, budget skills, and other helpful daily routines.
